Aran
Sweaters
Standún is a unique family run store, situated in a traditional Connemara setting opposite the Aran Islands on the renowned Galway Bay coastline. Hand knitting is a craft kept alive by the womenfolk of the Western seaboard. Each family had it’s own traditional stitches, a precious unrecorded heritage. Many of the fishermen lost their lives at sea and the pattern of stitches served as a means of identification. The meaning of the stitches are closely related to the earth, the sea or the home life of the fishermen. Standún was the first shop
in Ireland to sell the original Aran sweater. All our hand knitwear bears
the Standún label, your guarantee of quality and satisfaction.
Shipping will be FREE for all sweaters purchased and shipped to the USA. (Please note that the online shopping facility only applies to US customers) |
